What's Your Niche?

Before you begin to develop a marketing plan you need to know what it is your trying to market. If you are primarily a divorce attorney, you should market yourself as such. You can always add other practice areas latter. You should start with your most profitable area and build out. Unless you have a complete monopoly on your practice area, which is highly unlikely, you can always add more revenue with the help of a strong marketing program.

By focusing on your strengths as an attorney, your marketing program will have some important momentum out of the gate. Look at what other attorneys in your practice area are doing. Try searching google to see who comes up first under your practice area in your locality and in other localities. Also, take a look at who is paying for ads with google and yahoo. Look at their websites and see what you like and don't like about them. Do you know what type of law they practice just by looking at their site? Can you contact them easily through their site?

Take a similar assessment of your site and think about whether it is time to update or revise your current online presence.
